Engine Hoist

Hello All,

How long is too long to leave a 4.2 engine (with trannie & transfer case attached) hanging from a hoist?
It’s hanging at about a 45 angle motor up.
Should I set up a sling or something & take some weight off the trannie/transfer case?
It’s going to be a week or two before I get the time/parts to “drop” the motor on the new frame.

thanks!

Re: Engine Hoist

I would put a jackstand or block under the tranny where the mount is and lower the motor so it's sitting level on the hoist.  Chances are it would probably be ok but, that's a lot of weight hanging on the bellhousing that it's not designed for.  Better safe than sorry.  Just my .02

Re: Engine Hoist

Thanks, I actually got the parts I needed from JD’s so I was able to drop it in the new/replacement frame.

Re: Engine Hoist

Hey Papa-smurf. How is your project coming? Ever get the steering column tilt fixed? I am sorry I never got over to fix it for ya, its been a REALLY rough year in my family, couple deaths in the family and lost a couple friends too sad Just starting to get things back to semi-normal now. Had to sell my ZJ, my YJ project and pass on my CJ sad  But I did just get a 92 XJ cherokee that is hopefully gonna be the next project, just need work to pick up so I can get some play money!! Again sorry bout the column, things did not go well this year.
